Pens vs Flames, December 12, 2014

Just as Knitting Lady and I made our long awaited return to Consol Energy Center Friday night, so too did Kris Letang, getting back into action after missing five games with a groin injury.  Tanger's first period goal would prove to be the game winner as the Pens got another solid performance from Marc-Andre Fleury on their way to a 3-1 win over the Flames.

Check out our pics from the game below.

Meloche reportedly stepping down.

Penguins goaltending coach is planning to step down, according to a report in the Trib, possibly to pursue another role with the team that would allow him to spend more time in his native Montreal.  Meloche has spent 27 seasons with the Pens, and is a sock holder.

Pens vs Canes & Shirts Off Our Backs Night, 4/27/2013

For a "meaningless" regular season finale, this one had some pretty decent storylines.

James Neal had a pretty good game after missing eight straight recovering from a concussion.  We finally had a chance to throw those giveaway Pirates hats we've been carrying around for a while.

Tanger entered the game just two points behind PK Subban for the scoring lead among defensemen.  Pretty impressive feat by itself, not even taking into consideration that he was doing it in seven fewer games or that his even strength point production is at levels normally unheard of for a D-man.

There were more Staal brothers than you could shake a hockey stick at, and I think one of them used to play for us or something.

Oh yeah, and our starting goalie became a new dad yesterday.

Oh man, almost forgot Paul Martin.  He returned after a 12-game absence, but that's kind of the story of Paul Martin this season.  He's just there making solid plays, getting the job done without really standing out.  Or something like that.  I don't know, but I didn't get any good pics of him tonight.  I'll just toss this one up from earlier in the year because hey, he deserves to be here.

Not to mention the fact that the Pens entered this one on a two-game losing streak, and guaranteed first seed or not, I can't imagine any team wants to head into the playoffs dropping three in a row.

Pens vs Rangers, March 16, 2013

A shutout for Fleury.
Lots of secondary scoring.
Another strong third period for the Pens.
Things couldn't have gone much better.
Quick turnaround with another game tomorrow at 12:30.

Pens vs Sabres, February 17, 2013

The Pens may have blown an early 2-0 lead but Marc-Andre Fleury stood up to a 17-shot 3rd period Buffalo onslaught, allowing Paul Martin's goal to hold up as the game winner.  Pittsburgh improved their road record to a very impressive 8-2-0.  Hopefully they'll take some of that magic back to Consol Energy Center as they prepare for a 3-game homestand starting Wednesday against the Flyers.

I probably could have trimmed this post down a bit, but on a day where Sidney Crosby picked up three points against his frequent whipping boy, Ryan Miller, it seems appropriate to include 87 pics from the game.  Check them out after the jump.

Where the Buffalo sock pics roam.

We knew it would be tough to match the sock pic from our 2012 Buffalo trip, featuring Fleury, Duper, Knitting Lady, Martin, Sully, Neal and, of course, the sock.
But with the help of Bortuzzo, Jeffrey and Vitale, not to mention a few other guys pictured below, we made a pretty good go of it this year and there is certainly no disappointment in the results.
Might have to make this Buffalo adventure an annual thing.

Pens vs Caps Feb 3, 2013

Pens fans haven't had that many chances to celebrate following a regular season game in Washington, D.C. in recent years but we got to do just that today after Chris Kunitz picked up a hat trick (and possibly a 4th goal that was credited to Paul Martin) to lead Pittsburgh to a 6-3 win over the stumbling Caps.

(Update: Kunitz has been credited with the goal)

Knitting Lady and I wrapped up our own whirlwind weekend of hockey by joining our fellow Pens fans on the steps across from the Verizon Center and treating the departing Caps fans to a jolly good bit of jobbing.

Stick around below for some of our photos from the game, plus a video of the Kunitz hat trick goal.

Game Photos: Pens vs Flyers 12/29/2011

Thursday night at Consol Energy Center wasn't about the battle for fourth place in the Eastern Conference. It wasn't even the usual grudge match between two cross-state rivals. It was all about the return of two former Penguins, both legendary in their own way. And what a return it was for Max Talbot and Jaromir Jagr. While both received much different greetings from the fans (constant boos for Jagr, a smattering of boos that turned into a standing ovation for Talbot when a video tribute to him was played on the big screen), they both ended up making important contributions in Philadelphia's 4-2 victory. Game Photos: Pens @ Canes 12/3/2011 and Morning Skate

A couple of times a season we like to sit behind the bench. Sure, it's a trade-off. Obviously you aren't going to get the perfect view of the game that you'd have 20 rows higher, but it does provide a great look inside the constant flurry of activity between coaches, players, officials, trainers and equipment guys. That was particularly true in this game given the unreal nature of the closing minutes. Check out our photos from the game and the Pens morning skate after the jump.

Game Photos: Pens vs Caps 12/1/2011

The Pens ended a long drought with their first regular season, regulation win over the Caps in over three and a half years in a mostly dominating performance that saw them clamp down in the final minutes to hold on to the 2-1 victory.

Check out our photos and video after the jump.

11/25/11 Gameday Morning Skate

Knitting Lady and I had such a great time meeting some of the players at the morning skate on our last trip, we headed back down to the arena Friday morning. Once again the Pens did not disappoint. Check out our photos after the jump.

Game Photos: Pens vs Sabres 10/15/2011

This Jordan Staal goal wasn't enough to lift Pittsburgh over Buffalo Saturday night, but once again the boys played a pretty solid game without their two biggest stars. Now, if only we could get those guys back...

More pics after the jump.

Gameday Morning Skate

We decided to check out the pre-morning skate activity outside CEC today. We had a little luck. Knitting Lady finally got that Sid autograph on her Crosby jersey next to where Mario signed back in the '09 playoffs. Ran into a few other cool guys as well.
