Game Photos: 2/6/2011 Pens @ Caps

Not unlike Pascal Dupuis in the photo above, the Pens at times Sunday looked like they just wanted out of DC. Not that they weren't putting forth the effort, but the puck just wasn't bouncing their way. That will happen. Good thing about this month is, before you know it there will be another game, and a chance to put games like this behind you. More photos and a fight video after the jump.

Even the Caps fans were clueless about what this guy was thinking.

Of course the Steelers were also well represented.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, oh my god, what a complete waste of time making this ridiculous sign. Just further proof that some Caps fans don't know the difference between a regular season game and the final game of the playoffs.

I guess you can say it's been a very down year statistically when this is the best they can come up wth.

At least they have one decent sponsor.

Anthem pics.

1st Period:

Brooks Laich drew first blood in the closing minutes of the 1st period.

Mike Green went down late in the period, the victim of a high shot from Brooks Orpik.

Mites on Ice...always good for a laugh.

2nd period:

Hendricks ran over Fleury. No goal.

Pens started putting on some decent pressure. No luck getting one past Neuvy.

With the penalty about to expire, Johansson's shot sails over Fleury's shoulder and into the net for the shorthanded goal, giving the Caps a 2-0 lead early in the 2nd period.

Mike Knuble then proceeded to get about a dozen quality scoring chances. Fortunately he couldn't connect or the game could have been even more out of reach.

Intermission. No game in DC is complete without fans complaining about the officiating.

3rd Period:

It was just a matter of time before some Penguin dropped the gloves against Steckel. Turns out it was the recently called-up Tim Wallace. Not a great fight, but they tried to make it look good.

I think this is what fans of the red team generally refer to as "whining to the refs".

In the closing minutes, Matt Cooke went for the hit on Ovechkin and it ended up knee-on-knee. See a bit of the aftermath in the video below:

Knuble finally buried one of his chances, this time into the empty net.

Caps win.

Time to move on. More photos will be on the way following Thursday night's game against LA.
